CPS Social responsibility: Experience service learningAt Chennai Public School the fundamental teaching for students is to accept education as an objective and as an opportunity to serve the community especially the weaker sections. Students are encouraged to form themselves into groups, identify their own projects and work towards helping society. It stands to the credit of our students that they show remarkable initiative in planning and executing projects that make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged. They take effort in collecting and distributing contributions both in cash as well as in kind.
One vista of bringing them together with our children is by celebrating festivals such as Deepavali, Pongal, Christmas and New Year. Our students from pre-primary to 12th standard have joint programs with renowned NGOs such as Smile Foundation, Sevalaya, Kaakkum Karangal and Helpage India to conduct various camps and other community service programs among the weaker sections of society. Thereby we inculcate the vital social responsibility of sharing their resources, time and effort for helping the underprivileged. Activities that awaken social responsibility at Chennai Public School are free medical camps, wildlife conservation campaign, World Organ Donation rally, Clean up the world campaign, Teaching underprivileged, a day at old age home, Plant a sapling, AIDS, Cancer, Stem Cell, Anti Tobacco Awareness Campaigns, Blood Donation Camps, Fuel a Dream – Projects providing Back to School kits to children in rural Tamil Nadu & Reusable Sanitary Pads to underprivileged girls/women in urban slums of Chennai and so on. |
