This unique pedagogy is designed to be mentally stimulating, academically enriching and is the perfect conduit for young learners to begin their transition towards classic schooling. As an outcome, the blended curriculum offers unprecedented growth and development opportunities through positive and nurturing classroom environments to enable children to be inquirers, explorers and true leaders of their own learning.
With the motto of “Empowering Every Child”, Chennai Public School provides the right kind of environment for early education for every child. We believe that the first two years of education are critical to lay a solid foundation, and gear children up for future success. The Pre-primary education plays a vital role in the holistic development of a child.
Chennai Public School, Anna Nagar offers three levels of child-centric early childhood education programs:
Pre Primary 2 (PP2) - 3½ to 4½ years
Pre Primary 3 (PP3) - 4½ to 5½ years
This program for young learners places a strong emphasis on developing and honing the primary skills that lay the foundation to future learning: literacy, numeracy, communication and early language development. These skills provide a clear roadmap towards guiding a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and thus the curriculum centers on attaining the six learning outcomes.
Language & Literacy Development
One of the main goals of any early childhood education is to aid young children, develop a love for reading. Early learners greatly vary in their literacy needs. At CPS, the development of language among early learners is tailored to suit his or her own pace to acquire the four skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. It ensures that students are grounded in early reading to get trained in phonics, phonological awareness, comprehension and vocabulary, language concepts, writing and fluency. To strengthen the reading skills, every classroom houses a haven of books of all genres for children to self propel their interest in reading. Story telling sessions make children think out of box, develop vocabulary, express emotions, overcome fear, draw on their knowledge and experience of the real world in order to create a make believe world.
Numeracy
Numerical development is multifaceted. Young children are in a sensitive period for order - and the study of it helps them to satisfy the needs and interests that go along with this developmental stage. Early childhood numeracy encompasses much more than counting and knowing some elementary arithmetic facts. Through concrete hands-on activities and manipulatives, the numeracy classes guide students’ to develop apt numeracy skills through well designed activities such as counting, solving, measuring, sorting, noticing patterns, adding and subtracting numbers.
Environmental Awareness
Young children are intuitive scientists. They observe, ask questions, investigate, collect data and work out what it means, which is their basis for understanding their environment. This exposure fosters a lot of awareness among kids in order to instill the thought of sharing the responsibilities of the globe. We bring nature into the classroom, and students are taken for a nature walk to make connections and apply their learning in the real world. These exercises of practical life are designed to sharpen their senses, channelise their imagination, unlock their creativity and enable them to understand the impressions he/she receives through them.
Life Skills
Learning life skills at CPS is inevitable as we groom the little ones to be masters of all times. Children are initially introduced to practical exercises using most of the materials seen at home but would not have laid their hands on. The life skill exercises such as care of the self, care of the environment, grace and courtesy, and control of movement help them develop concentration, gross and fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, good working habits and pay attention to details as they follow a regular sequence of actions.
CPS empowers students by opening different avenues of information. Given the freedom and support to question, probe deeply, and make connections, our kids grow up to be confident, enthusiastic, and self-directed learners, accountable to both themselves and their community. They think critically, work collaboratively, and act boldly and with integrity. To leverage our diverse classroom, various activities are planned to foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures.
Creative Arts
The most important value of integrating artistic learning is to allow children to explore their own creativity. Children’s aesthetic sensitivity and imagination are appreciated by their participation in diversified creative activities such as music, dance and arts. When art is integrated in the early years, they get ample opportunities to express themselves visually what they may not be able to say verbally. Art education at CPS, springs to pioneer our children into depths that have existed beyond their imaginative contemplation. Hearing music, singing songs, and moving to the beat incline the children to a rich musical experience to build a higher self esteem, concentration and considerable social, emotional and physical benefits.
Free Play
Children’s play is like ‘fireworks’ going off in the brain. At our campus, kids play area awaits play hungry children as it promises to provide opportunities to expand their imagination; develop a sense of independence, self-confidence, and feeling of accomplishment. Outdoor play offers a good opportunity to connect with nature and indoor play helps them to relax, have fun and at the same time learn many important life skills. In this safe and secure den, children are exposed to ball pits, giant legos, adventure zones, huge playstations with slides, bridges and tunnels along with other soft play equipment and imaginative play materials. Thus the controlled and hygienic positive play environment makes them the best place to develop fine/gross motor skills.
